Kishan Reddy questions Congress over promises made to Telangana people

Central Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy has written an open letter to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, questioning the party’s commitment to promises made to Telangana residents. With the Congress government completing two years in the state, he urged the party to clarify how much of its election pledges, especially those aimed at farmers and common citizens, have been implemented.

Kishan Reddy recalled that during the 2023 Telangana Assembly election campaign, Sonia Gandhi released the Congress manifesto under the title “Abhaya Hasta.” She also personally promised that six key guarantees would be implemented immediately once Congress came to power - a pledge credited with securing the party’s electoral victory.

However, two years into governance, Kishan Reddy asked whether Sonia Gandhi or the party leadership had reviewed the implementation of these promises. He also questioned if Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had raised this issue when he recently met Sonia Gandhi.

Recently, CM Revanth presented the “Telangana Rising - 2047 Vision Document” to Sonia Gandhi, and media reports suggested she praised the state government’s work. Kishan Reddy argued that such praise creates the impression that Sonia Gandhi is unaware of the actual status of Congress’s election promises in Telangana.

He accused the state government of misleading people with new vision documents while ignoring previously pledged guarantees. By focusing on self-praise rather than accountability, the party leadership, he said, was failing in its responsibility.

Kishan Reddy asked if Congress has abandoned its election promises. He raised pointed questions about whether the 420 pledges made in the manifesto were quietly forgotten or ignored, emphasizing that the party owes a clear and honest explanation to Telangana residents.

He urged the Congress government to fulfill the promises already made before announcing new visions or pledges. Otherwise, he warned, the “Abhaya Hasta” that once symbolized hope could soon turn into a symbol of public anger, potentially costing the party political support. Kishan Reddy concluded by stating that Telangana citizens will hold the government accountable if its trust is betrayed.
