Kia launches updated 2026 Bongo III with enhanced safety, camera features
Kia Corp has started sales of the 2026 Bongo III , refreshing its compact commercial truck with a clear emphasis on safety, driver assistance, and cargo flexibility. The move is part of the company’s broader strategy to strengthen its position in the light commercial vehicle space, which continues to see steady demand from logistics operators and small businesses.
The latest Bongo III comes equipped with an improved front camera system featuring a wider field of view. This upgrade allows better recognition of obstacles, lane markings, pedestrians, and cyclists, particularly in dense urban and delivery environments. Forward Collision Avoidance Assist has now been made standard across the range, marking a notable safety upgrade in a segment where such features are still limited. Select variants also benefit from enhanced lane support functions, especially in electric models.
In terms of comfort and usability, Kia has introduced a new convenience package for wing body and power gate versions. This includes a 10.25 inch navigation system, rearview monitor, fully automatic air conditioning, and a push button start smart key. These additions are aimed at improving daily driving comfort for commercial users who spend long hours behind the wheel.
Kia has also expanded the Bongo III lineup with new special purpose variants to cater to varied logistics needs. The LPG turbo range now includes an extended wing body version with a longer cargo bed, while a refrigerated power gate model offers increased body dimensions for better load management. In the electric range, the company has introduced an electric high freezer truck , providing extra cargo height for temperature sensitive and bulk goods transportation.
The 2026 Bongo III has gone on sale in South Korea with prices starting at around 20.5 million won (approximately ₹12.8 lakh) for base variants, rising significantly for higher trims and specialised electric models. While Kia has not officially announced launch plans for other markets, industry observers expect selective regional introductions later in 2026, depending on local demand and regulatory conditions.
Initial market response has been largely positive, particularly from small fleet operators who welcome the addition of advanced safety features and a wider choice of body styles. However, some buyers remain cautious about the higher pricing of premium and electric versions in a cost sensitive commercial segment.
In its home market, the Bongo III competes directly with Hyundai Porter , while in regions such as India and Southeast Asia it would face competition from pickup based models in the light commercial vehicle category. These rivals often focus more on payload and operating costs, whereas Kia is positioning the Bongo III as a more feature rich and safety focused option.
