Khammam–Warangal–Karimnagar Corridor to Anchor Telangana’s Next Growth Phase
In a major push towards decentralised urban and industrial development, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has unveiled an ambitious plan to develop a network of mega growth corridors aimed at transforming tier-2 cities into powerful economic engines and reducing the state’s dependence on Hyderabad.
The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting with senior officials from the Municipal Administration and Roads & Buildings departments , where the Chief Minister approved several infrastructure and urban expansion proposals designed to shape Telangana’s long-term growth strategy.
At the centre of the government’s vision is the proposed Khammam–Warangal–Karimnagar corridor , which Revanth Reddy described as the future backbone of Telangana’s economic and industrial growth. The corridor is expected to integrate industrial clusters, logistics hubs, commercial centres and expanding urban settlements across eastern and northern Telangana.
The Chief Minister also instructed officials to prepare comprehensive development plans for the Mahabubnagar–Bhootpur–Jadcherla and Kothagudem–Palvancha–Sujathanagar corridors , stressing that these projects should evolve into full-fledged industrial and commercial ecosystems rather than remaining mere road networks.
With rapid urbanisation placing pressure on civic infrastructure, Revanth Reddy directed officials to adopt a 25-year planning vision for all future projects. He ordered the immediate initiation of Outer Ring Road (ORR) works in Khammam, Warangal and Karimnagar to ease congestion and support planned urban expansion.
The government also emphasised sustainable urban management by prioritising solid waste processing , sewage treatment plants , renewable energy integration and modern civic infrastructure. In a notable green mobility initiative, the Chief Minister announced that only electric vehicles (EVs) would be hired for official government use going forward.
To modernise urban governance, the state plans to deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based traffic management systems , smart poles and other digital technologies in municipalities.
The meeting further reviewed proposals for a Nalgonda–Yadadri Temple Corridor and a tourism-focused corridor around Adilabad . Revanth Reddy also instructed officials to accelerate airport development projects in Warangal and Adilabad , while ensuring supporting infrastructure such as roads and water supply.
In another significant move, the government is considering merging municipalities across the Singareni coal belt region into a single administrative unit to improve governance and infrastructure coordination.
The latest initiatives reflect Telangana’s broader strategy to create multiple regional growth centres and position the state for long-term industrial and urban expansion.
