Kerala to Unveil ‘My Police Station’ Initiative on August 14

The Kerala government will launch its ‘My Police Station’ initiative on August 14 to make police stations more accessible, efficient and people-friendly, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said on Wednesday.

The state-level launch will be held at the Peroorkada police station in Thiruvananthapuram, with Chief Minister V D Satheesan inaugurating the project and unveiling its logo. Chennithala will preside over the function, while Health Minister K Muraleedharan will deliver the keynote address.

The initiative seeks to transform police stations into citizen-friendly service centres, where people can approach the police with confidence, access services efficiently and have their dignity respected.

Under the project, dedicated help desks will be established to receive complaints and assist women, children, senior citizens, transgender persons and persons with disabilities. The desks will also support cybercrime victims and facilitate legal assistance.

Citizens will be able to access services related to various applications and online facilities, information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, and copies of First Information Reports (FIRs).

The government also plans to improve police functioning through greater professionalism and technology, while ensuring clean premises and a welcoming atmosphere at police stations.

The Home Department aims to eliminate unlawful practices, including custodial torture, and develop police stations as models of modern democratic institutions.

Police personnel have already begun training and other programmes to implement the initiative and improve the quality of public services.
