Kerala To Launch 'Talk Room' for Children, Expand Anti Drug Drive Under Operation Toofan

The Kerala government will introduce Talk Room, a dedicated platform where children can openly discuss their emotional, mental and social concerns, as part of its intensified Operation Toofan anti drug campaign, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala announced after a meeting with student and youth organisations in Thiruvananthapuram. The initiative is aimed at strengthening early intervention and emotional support for children while expanding the state's broader fight against narcotics.

The meeting resolved to widen the scope of Operation Toofan by increasing public participation and intensifying action against drug mafias. Youth organisations pledged support to the campaign and proposed measures including scientific awareness programmes in schools, expansion of de addiction services to taluk hospitals and health centres, stricter monitoring of online drug trafficking, and greater involvement of parents, PTAs and Kudumbashree in anti drug activities. They also suggested introducing anti narcotics awareness into the school curriculum, forming anti drug clubs and mobilising volunteers as Toofan Warriors.

Chennithala also assured government support for establishing Student Police Cadet (SPC) units in aided and unaided schools in accordance with legal provisions. The latest measures build on Operation Toofan, a statewide campaign launched in June in coordination with the Police, Health and Excise departments to dismantle drug trafficking networks through enforcement, awareness and community participation. The minister has previously said the campaign has already resulted in narcotics worth over ₹60 crore being seized within its first month and has stressed that the movement must remain free from criminal influence while encouraging wider public involvement.
