Kerala to Conduct Special Voter Enrolment Drive, Digital Help Desks From October 15
A special voter enrolment drive will be conducted across Kerala, with district collectors directed to facilitate the process, Chief Electoral Officer D Sajith Babu said on Wednesday.
In a statement, the CEO said the district collectors were instructed on October 5 to organise the special enrolment drive across the state. As part of the initiative, digital help desks will be set up at village offices from October 15 to 31 to assist eligible citizens with voter registration.
Sajith Babu said the additional declaration form that was required earlier has now been eliminated. Applicants will only have to submit online Form 6 through the Citizen Service portal or the Voter Helpline app, in accordance with the law.
Along with the application, applicants will have to submit any one of 12 documents establishing their photograph, age and address. Those submitting Aadhaar will also have to provide another supporting document, the CEO said.
The applications will subsequently be verified by booth-level officers (BLOs), who will conduct household visits as part of the verification process.
The CEO said electoral registration officers (EROs) have also been directed to examine major differences between the electoral roll that came into force on January 1, 2025, and the roll published immediately before the Assembly polls.
An ERO-level verification will additionally be carried out to determine how many applications that remained uncollected during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll were eventually included in the voter list published after the election.
The Election Commission has also planned a special enrolment initiative for young voters under the “Campus to Booth” programme. A week-long drive will begin at colleges and higher secondary schools from November 2 with the tagline “Step Forward, Get Counted.”
District collectors have been asked to maximise student participation in voter-awareness activities through Electoral Literacy Clubs, the CEO said.
