In a major breakthrough in Kerala’s intensified war on drugs, the Thrissur Rural Police on Tuesday seized 245.72 grams of MDMA from a car and arrested a 32-year-old man allegedly involved in trafficking.

According to officials, a DANSAF (District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force) team intercepted a red car near Tanav, Irinjalakuda, following specific intelligence received by Thrissur Rural District Police Chief B. Krishnakumar about the smuggling attempt. The MDMA was found hidden inside a secret compartment of the vehicle.

The driver, Fahad, a native of Kodungallur, was arrested on the spot and the car was seized. Police said he is already an accused in a previous case for driving dangerously under the influence of alcohol, registered at the Kodungallur police station.

Officials noted that the arrest comes amid a recent surge in anti-narcotics operations across Kerala, with district police units stepping up surveillance, vehicle inspections and targeted raids ahead of the local body elections. Over the past few months, police statewide have reported a sharp increase in seizures of synthetic drugs, crackdowns on peddling networks and coordinated operations involving special task forces.
