Kerala: Police probe viral poster linking Lord Krishna to non-veg dish
Police in Kottakkal have registered a case after a controversial promotional poster allegedly depicting Lord Krishna alongside ‘kuzhi mandi’, an Arabian non-vegetarian dish, surfaced on social media, officials said on Monday.
According to the police, the poster purportedly created in the name of two restaurants, Arabian Majlis and Raydhan, located at Parambilangadi in Kottakkal was circulated as part of Vishu greetings , sparking public outrage.
The case has been registered against unknown persons under Section 192 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with acts intended to provoke unrest. The complaint was filed by a local resident, following which an investigation was launched.
Officials said the restaurant owners will be summoned for questioning , even as efforts are underway to identify the individual or group responsible for creating and circulating the poster.
Police sources indicated that the matter is being treated seriously given its potential to disturb communal harmony .
The incident comes amid a series of similar controversies in Kerala. Earlier, cases were registered in Cherthala and Mankada, where restaurant owners were arrested over comparable social media posts.
In a related development, another provocative image allegedly showing a Muslim man consuming pork in front of a mosque also surfaced online following the Cherthala incident, prompting police to register a separate case.
Authorities have urged the public to exercise restraint while sharing content online , warning of strict action against those attempting to incite tensions through offensive or inflammatory material.
