Kerala Police Launches Centre Of Excellence Project To Modernise Battalions
The Kerala Police on Monday launched a Centre of Excellence project aimed at transforming various battalions into specialised centres of excellence in contemporary and emerging areas of policing, marking a major step towards modernisation of the force.
Inaugurating the project at the Armed Police Headquarters here, State Police Chief Ravada A Chandrasekhar said the changing nature of crime demands a police force equipped with professional knowledge and updated skills relevant to present-day challenges. He stressed that policing systems must continuously evolve to respond effectively to new forms of criminal activity.
According to an official statement, the initiative is designed to equip police personnel to handle a wide range of modern policing challenges through structured and specialised training programmes . Under the project, selected master trainers from different battalions will first undergo intensive training in identified focus areas.
These trained personnel will then cascade the training to other officers and staff , enabling battalions to build advanced operational capabilities across multiple domains. The model is intended to create a sustainable internal training ecosystem within the force.
The project also aims to prepare battalion personnel for local police station duties , enhance individual competencies by leveraging geographical strengths , and ensure uniform training standards across all battalions . It further focuses on implementing continuous training modules , and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in key operational areas.
Additionally, the programme promotes practical, field-based and case study-driven training methods , while also establishing dedicated mechanisms for research, learning, and innovation within the police force.
The initiative will cover 10 units, including the Special Armed Police (SAP), Kerala Armed Police (KAP) Battalions I to V, Rapid Response and Rescue Force (RRRF), Malabar Special Police (MSP), India Reserve Battalion (IRB), and the Women’s Battalion .
Senior officers, including Armed Police Battalion ADGP Dinendra Kashyap, ADGP H Venkatesh, IG S Satheesh Bino, and DIG Hari Shankar , were present at the inauguration, the statement added.
