In the wake of the devastating Mundathicode fireworks unit explosion that claimed multiple lives, Union Minister Suresh Gopi has announced financial assistance of ₹1 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
The tragic incident, which occurred on April 21 , left 14 people dead and four others missing , sending shockwaves across Thrissur, a region deeply associated with the cultural celebrations of Thrissur Pooram .
Taking to social media, Suresh Gopi expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a moment of profound anguish for the region where festival traditions hold strong cultural significance.
He announced that the relief will be provided through the Lakshmi Suresh Gopi Initiative Trust , established in memory of his daughter. The initiative, he said, is a gesture of support to the bereaved families during this painful time.
While acknowledging that no financial assistance can replace the loss of lives , the Minister stated that the support aims to offer some relief and comfort to those affected by the tragedy.
The explosion at the fireworks manufacturing unit, linked to preparations for the famed Thrissur Pooram celebrations, has raised serious concerns over safety measures and working conditions in such facilities.
