Keerthy Suresh’s 'Dorothy' OTT Release Date Confirmed, To Stream On Netflix In 5 Languages
Keerthy Suresh’s critically acclaimed Tamil film 'Dorothy' is preparing for its digital debut, giving audiences another opportunity to discover Karthik Subbaraj’s socially layered drama. Starring Keerthy Suresh alongside Rishikanth and Sananth, the film will premiere on Netflix on October 23, 2026, in five languages.
Netflix has confirmed that 'Dorothy' will stream in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. The multilingual release is expected to introduce the film to a wider audience, including viewers who missed its theatrical run.
Written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film was released in theatres on September 25, 2026. It also received attention at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it premiered on September 11 and reportedly earned a standing ovation. The film features music by legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja, whose score adds emotional depth to its storytelling.
Set in a village near Madurai in 1995, 'Dorothy' follows childhood friends Karthi, played by Rishikanth, and Subbu, portrayed by Sananth. Although they grow up in different social and economic circumstances, their friendship remains central to the narrative. Their lives take an unexpected turn when Dorothy, played by Keerthy Suresh, enters the picture, bringing buried emotions and long-held secrets to the surface.
Beyond its crime-drama elements, the film explores caste discrimination, toxic masculinity, patriarchy, friendship and LGBTQ+ representation. Its themes and unconventional storytelling have attracted critical discussion, while its treatment of gender and social expectations has also drawn mixed reactions from sections of the audience. The film carries an A certificate, restricting theatrical viewing to adults.
Despite receiving critical appreciation, 'Dorothy' did not emerge as a major commercial success. Its Netflix premiere now offers the makers an opportunity to reach viewers interested in unconventional Tamil cinema and socially relevant stories.
The project is associated with Sikhya Entertainment, Dhammam Films and Jio Studios. With its digital release approaching, audiences will soon be able to judge the film for themselves and discover why Subbaraj's latest directorial venture has generated discussion beyond the box office.
