Kedarnath Yatra Back on Track as Trek Route Reopens After Rain-Triggered Landslide

The Kedarnath trek route was reopened for pilgrims on Wednesday after authorities swiftly cleared landslide debris that had blocked the path following heavy rainfall, bringing relief to thousands undertaking the annual pilgrimage.

The trekking route was closed earlier in the day after debris and loose stones crashed onto the pathway near Chhodi, around one kilometre beyond Gauri Kund, making the stretch unsafe for pilgrims. As a precaution, officials temporarily halted the movement of devotees at Sonprayag and Gauri Kund until the affected section could be secured.

Teams were immediately deployed to clear the fallen debris, and restoration work was completed within hours. Once officials confirmed that the route was safe for travel, the pilgrimage resumed, allowing devotees to continue their journey towards the Kedarnath shrine.

Authorities said the temporary closure was purely a safety measure, as heavy rainfall had increased the risk of landslides in the region. Pilgrims were advised to cooperate with officials and follow weather advisories while travelling through the Himalayan terrain.

The incident once again highlights the challenges posed by the monsoon season in Uttarakhand's hill districts, where rain-triggered landslides frequently disrupt roads and trekking routes. Disaster management teams and local authorities remain on alert to ensure the safety of pilgrims throughout the ongoing Char Dham Yatra.

With the route now restored, the flow of pilgrims to one of India's holiest temples has resumed, although officials continue to closely monitor weather conditions for any further disruptions.
