KCR to Chair Key BRS Meet Today - Irrigation, AP Water Dispute in Focus

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will hold a joint meeting of its Legislature Party and State Executive Committee on Sunday at Telangana Bhavan, with party president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) set to preside. The meeting, scheduled to begin at 2 pm, will be attended by senior party leaders and public representatives from across Telangana. With the Parliament session having concluded, BRS MPs are also expected to participate fully in the deliberations.

According to party sources, the meeting will focus on Telangana’s irrigation interests and what the BRS describes as continued water diversion by Andhra Pradesh. KCR is expected to mount a strong attack on the Congress government, accusing it of failing to safeguard the state’s water rights and of adopting a weak approach towards the Centre on crucial irrigation issues.

The former Chief Minister is likely to emphasise the need for launching “another public movement” to protect Telangana’s irrigation rights, particularly in the Palamuru–Rangareddy and Nalgonda regions. He is expected to strongly criticise the Congress government for agreeing to limit water allocation to 45 TMC for the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, pointing out that 91 TMC had been earmarked for the project during the BRS regime. KCR is also expected to allege that the present government compromised Telangana’s interests by yielding to pressure from the Centre.

The BRS is also expected to raise objections to Andhra Pradesh’s proposed river-linking projects, including the Polavaram–Nallamala Sagar (Banakacherla) link. Party leaders said KCR will allege that the Centre is facilitating large-scale diversion of Godavari waters in the name of inter-basin transfers, adversely affecting Telangana’s rightful share.

KCR is likely to express disappointment over the silence of Telangana’s MPs from the BJP and Congress on the issue and assert that the BRS alone is prepared to fight directly for the interests of farmers. He is expected to indicate readiness for statewide agitations, especially to protect farmers in Palamuru, Rangareddy, and Nalgonda districts.

The BRS is also set to criticise the Congress government for what it describes as failures in managing irrigation projects during its two-year tenure. Party sources said the meeting may take key decisions on organisational restructuring, future political strategy, and the roadmap for upcoming public movements, with KCR expected to outline an aggressive course of action in the coming months.
