KCP Commander Arrested in Delhi, Massive Arms Cache Seized in Manipur
In a major joint operation, security agencies arrested Haobijam Dilip Singh , a senior commander of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), in Delhi, officials said on Thursday. The operation was carried out by the Delhi Police Special Cell , Manipur Police , and central intelligence agencies.
Following his interrogation, security forces launched a recovery operation in Kakching district of Manipur , leading to the seizure of a massive cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives. The recovered weapons included AK-56, Amogh, AI and M4 rifles , along with nearly 2,000 live cartridges of various calibres. Officials also recovered 51 high-explosive bombs , detonators, para bombs, and shells.
Investigators said Haobijam, who is wanted in over a dozen cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) , had reportedly travelled to Delhi for a “secret meeting”. Agencies are now probing whether insurgent groups were attempting to expand their networks beyond the Northeast and use metropolitan cities for coordination, logistics, or recruitment.
The arrest has once again highlighted the persistent challenge of insurgency in Manipur, where militant outfits continue to exploit ethnic tensions, porous borders, and illegal arms trafficking routes. Security experts say the steady flow of sophisticated weapons into the region has complicated counter-insurgency operations and heightened concerns over organised violence.
Officials suspect the seized arms and explosives may have been intended for large-scale attacks in Manipur and possibly elsewhere. Further investigation is underway to determine the wider network linked to the operation.
