Seeking to reignite the spirit of the Telangana statehood movement, Kalvakuntla Kavitha , president of the Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) , on Monday announced a major Bhoo Poratam (land rights agitation) on July 2 and called on people from all sections of society to participate. Drawing parallels with the iconic Million March of 2011 , she said the proposed protest would serve as a platform to press for the rights and recognition of Telangana movement activists.

Speaking after unfurling the national flag at the Telangana Rakshana Sena office in Banjara Hills as part of Telangana State Formation Day celebrations, Kavitha paid tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the creation of Telangana. She also saluted activists and citizens whose efforts contributed to the formation of the state in 2014.

Emphasizing the historical significance of June 2, Kavitha said the day should not be viewed merely as a public holiday but as a symbol of Telangana’s self-respect, identity, and hard-earned statehood . She urged younger generations to learn about the movement and the sacrifices that made the state's formation possible.

A major highlight of her address was her demand for the installation of a statue of Professor K. Jayashankar , widely regarded as the chief ideologue of the Telangana movement, on Hyderabad’s Tank Bund. She argued that it was unfortunate that even after more than a decade of statehood, the capital city did not have a memorial honoring one of the movement’s most influential thinkers.

Kavitha said Telangana Jagruthi had already installed Jayashankar’s statues in several districts and offered to bear the full cost of constructing and maintaining a statue in Hyderabad if the government granted permission. She urged the state administration to complete the process before August 6.

The TRS chief also criticized the Congress government, alleging that it had failed to address promises made to Telangana movement activists. She expressed disappointment that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy did not make any announcement regarding activists’ welfare or the implementation of recommendations related to the KK Committee during the State Formation Day celebrations.

Warning of an intensified agitation, Kavitha announced that a large-scale protest would be held at Uppal Bhagayath on July 2 if the government remained unresponsive. She appealed to intellectuals, employees, students, lawyers, journalists, and citizens across Telangana to participate, saying the movement would transcend party lines and reflect the collective aspirations of the people.

Positioning her party as a defender of Telangana’s founding ideals, Kavitha also promised that a future Telangana Rakshana Sena government would provide ₹1 crore in financial assistance to the families of Telangana martyrs and ensure that movement activists are made active partners in the state’s development.
