Kavitha slams govt over BC reservations, Batukamma celebrations

BRS leader and Jagruti president K. Kavitha came down heavily on the Telangana government, accusing it of lacking sincerity in implementing Backward Class (BC) reservations and mishandling cultural celebrations like Batukamma.

Speaking to the media, she alleged that the government was more interested in chasing Guinness Book records than preserving Telangana’s culture. “Bringing just 10,000 women and calling it a grand Batukamma celebration is an insult to our tradition,” she said.

Kavitha argued that Batukamma is a cultural identity of Telangana and should not be used for political mileage. “We once took Batukamma from Chintamadaka to London. But today the government is only interested in records, not in protecting the spirit of the festival,” she remarked.

She promised that next year her organization would organize Batukamma on a much larger scale. “We will celebrate with one lakh women and create a record that truly represents the strength of Telangana’s culture,” she declared.

Criticism of local body election schedule

Kavitha also criticized the government’s handling of the upcoming local body elections, calling the reservation policy “confusing and inconsistent.” She questioned how BC reservations could be applied in villages with predominantly Scheduled Tribe populations.

“The schedule is full of errors and lacks clarity. People are left in confusion about whether elections will even be held,” she said. She added that her party would decide its participation after the court’s verdict expected on October 8.

Allegations on BC reservation cases

On the issue of BC caste census and reservations, Kavitha accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s close aides of deliberately filing cases to block 42% reservations announced by the government. “This is nothing but a conspiracy against BC communities,” she alleged.

She further said that while the Assembly had passed the SC categorization bill, the government failed to implement it in practice. “For BC rights, BRS will have to fight again. Our struggle will continue,” she asserted.

Attack on Etela Rajender

Kavitha also targeted BJP MP Etela Rajender for his remarks on elections. “How can he say no one should contest? Are these his personal comments or the BJP’s official stand?” she asked. She accused him of trying to influence the courts and demanded an apology for his “insensitive” remarks that, she said, insulted BC communities.

On Kaleshwaram project repairs

Welcoming the repair works at the Kaleshwaram project, Kavitha said it was a lifeline for Telangana and urged the government to carry out the works transparently and efficiently.

In her wide-ranging remarks, Kavitha hit out at the state government for its failures in ensuring proper reservations, mishandling cultural events, and creating confusion over local body polls. She reiterated that her fight for BC rights and protection of Telangana’s culture would continue.
