Kavitha Plans New Party in Telangana, Holds Talks With Prashant Kishor

Telangana politics is witnessing another significant churn as K. Kavitha , former MLC and daughter of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) , is reportedly preparing the groundwork to launch a new political party in the state. According to Telangana Jagruti sources, Kavitha has held discussions with renowned election strategist Prashant Kishor , indicating that her political plans may be moving beyond speculation and into active planning.

Kavitha, who heads Telangana Jagruti , is said to have met Kishor several times during his recent five-day visit to Hyderabad . The meetings reportedly focused on the possible structure of a new party, the political space available in Telangana , voter expectations, and the long-term electoral roadmap. Kishor now associated with Bihar-based Jan Suraaj has previously been credited with creating campaign blueprints and grassroots outreach models, making his engagement with Kavitha politically noteworthy.

This development comes against the backdrop of Kavitha’s turbulent exit from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) . She was suspended from BRS in September 2025 for alleged anti-party activities, after she publicly levelled serious allegations against key BRS leaders T. Harish Rao and J. Santosh Kumar , accusing them of actions that harmed KCR’s image—particularly regarding the controversy around the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project . The episode exposed internal fissures in the party and placed Kavitha on a clear political collision course with the BRS leadership.

Importantly, Kavitha’s separation from the BRS has now become institutionally formal. Her resignation from the Legislative Council has been accepted by Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy , effective January 6 , officially ending her tenure as an elected member from the Nizamabad Local Authorities constituency (elected in 2021). This acceptance strengthens political chatter that Kavitha is no longer keeping the door open for a return to BRS and is instead moving towards an independent political path.

Over the last few months, Kavitha has also sharpened her public messaging criticising both the Congress government and the earlier BRS regime , alleging corruption and irregularities under both dispensations. In a major escalation, she termed the BRS Constitution a “joke” , alleging improper disciplinary procedures and questioning the internal functioning of the party. Her remarks signalled not just personal dissatisfaction but a broader attempt to position herself as a leader fighting “systemic” political culture rather than internal family politics.

Political observers believe Kavitha may be working to carve out a third political pole by combining Telangana identity politics with public-issue activism through Telangana Jagruti, while simultaneously seeking a professional election framework through Prashant Kishor. With Telangana’s political landscape currently dominated by Congress in power , BRS as the main opposition , and BJP attempting expansion , a new Kavitha-led party could influence vote shares especially within urban pockets, women voter segments, and sections of the BRS cadre.

While no official party name, launch date, or manifesto has been announced, the ongoing talks and formal political exit steps suggest the plan is being treated seriously. If Kavitha finalises her move, it could become one of the most consequential political developments in Telangana ahead of the next electoral cycle impacting both opposition unity and the BRS’s internal stability.
