Kavitha Launches New Political Party ‘Telangana Rashtra Sena’
In a significant political development in Telangana, Kalvakuntla Kavitha , daughter of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and president of Telangana Jagruthi, on Saturday announced the launch of a new political party named ‘Telangana Rashtra Sena’ (TRS) . She unveiled the party flag and agenda at a massive public meeting held in Munirabad, Medchal district , where her remarks targeting her father and brother sparked widespread discussion across the state.
Earlier in the day, Kavitha paid floral tributes at the Gun Park Martyrs’ Memorial in Hyderabad to honour those who laid down their lives during the 1969 Telangana movement . She criticised the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) , stating that the party had lost its original spirit and connection with the people after its name change. “We did not leave the party; we were expelled. Telangana runs in my blood. Whether the party exists or not, whether the family stands with me or not, the soil of Telangana will guide us forward,” she said.
In a sharp attack on her father, Kavitha said, “The KCR we once knew no longer exists. The present KCR is a lifeless mechanical doll, held captive among a pack of wolves.” She alleged that he has become unresponsive to public issues, citing incidents such as house demolitions in Hyderabad and Khammam, crop losses due to heavy rains, and a fatal accident near Chevella. She also criticised the delay in completing the Palamuru–Rangareddy project , accusing him of prioritising national politics over Telangana. Kavitha further alleged that she was expelled from BRS for questioning corruption in the Kaleshwaram project , while those involved were retained in the party.
She also targeted her brother and BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) , stating that he lacks political maturity. Questioning his remarks blaming people for electoral outcomes, she said, “If people do not grant power, does that mean they are wrong?”
Expressing confidence that her party would come to power in the 2028 Assembly elections , Kavitha announced five major promises under the banner ‘Panchajanyam’ , including free education and healthcare for every citizen, free electricity for farmers, filling four lakh jobs through a single notification, 50 per cent reservation for BCs in MP and MLA posts, and fulfilling Telangana’s aspirations through water, funds, and employment.
Kavitha compared Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to Hitler, criticising the government over house demolitions, deaths in welfare hostels, and custodial deaths. Targeting the BJP, she alleged that the party was unwilling to grant Telangana and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks during bifurcation had hurt Telangana’s self-respect. She also challenged BJP MPs from Telangana to reclaim five villages transferred to Andhra Pradesh.
Stating that she would provide governance “like a mother” to 3.5 crore people of Telangana, Kavitha said empathetic leadership was essential to understand public suffering. She emphasised that Telangana was achieved through prolonged struggles against feudal systems and later through the statehood movement, and vowed to realise a “social Telangana” through political and public movements.
Kavitha said the party is awaiting final approval from the Election Commission of India (ECI) for its name. She reiterated that backward class empowerment, including 50 per cent reservations in legislatures , would be central to the party’s agenda, adding that 95 per cent focus would remain on regional issues. She accused both the 10-year BRS rule and the two-year Congress rule of failing to meet the aspirations of youth and farmers.
Kavitha was expelled from BRS in September 2025 after criticising alleged corruption in the Kaleshwaram project. Since then, she has been active through Telangana Jagruthi, and her decision to launch a new party is expected to have significant implications for the political landscape of Telangana.
