Kavitha Criticises Congress and BRS, Plans New Political Party Launch in May

Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha has announced the launch of a new political party in the first week of May , signalling a major shift in Telangana’s political landscape. The decision follows her suspension from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and resignation from her MLC post after internal differences with the party leadership. Speaking in Hyderabad, she said the new organisation will not revolve around individuals but will function through strong institutional systems , clear ideology, and grassroots participation. She emphasised that the party will carry a strong regional character rooted in the aspirations of the Telangana movement , aiming to build a durable political alternative that reflects public participation and social equity.

Outlining her electoral strategy, Kavitha said she intends to contest the upcoming Assembly elections , naming Siddipet as her first preference and Bodhan as an alternative. She expressed confidence that her party will emerge as a major political force and potentially the principal opposition in the state. Beyond the Assembly, she confirmed plans to field candidates in local body elections , including MPTC, ZPTC and GHMC polls, indicating a long-term grassroots expansion strategy designed to strengthen political presence at the community level.

Kavitha’s political repositioning comes after a significant rift within the BRS, prompting her to resign and begin rebuilding her career independently. Through her statewide outreach initiative, she consulted social groups, activists and intellectuals to shape a vision of a socially inclusive Telangana driven by participatory governance. She also criticised the ruling Congress government , alleging that governance practices remain unchanged despite the change in power, and raised concerns over RTC workers , pending bills and the absence of permanent recruitments, warning that unresolved employee issues could trigger wider protests.

Reaffirming ideological priorities, Kavitha said Telangana identity and self-respect will form the party’s core foundation. She promised to promote youth leadership and grassroots activists while rejecting dynastic politics, drawing parallels with the rise of ordinary leaders during the era of N. T. Rama Rao . Positioning herself as a daughter of the soil, she stressed that the party would represent Telangana’s cultural aspirations and inclusive growth.

She also made sharp remarks targeting K. T. Rama Rao , alleging that individuals who betrayed the movement are close to him, making his rhetoric about activists contradictory. Emphasising the role of women in politics, she said female leaders should not be underestimated and vowed to persist with determination. Her announcement comes amid shifting political dynamics, with Congress in power, BRS in opposition and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seeking expansion, and analysts believe her new party could reshape opposition politics and revive Telangana-centric discourse in the coming years.
