Kavitha arrested during attempt to surround Singareni Bhavan

Telangana Jagruthi president Kavitha was taken into police custody after she, along with HMS (Hind Mazdoor Sabha) leaders, attempted to surround Singareni Bhavan in Nampally as part of a protest. The demonstration demanded the reinstatement of dependent employment for Singareni workers and the immediate establishment of a medical board.

Kavitha highlighted that several important issues concerning Singareni employees have been pending for months. She emphasized that restoring dependent jobs and setting up a medical board are crucial for the livelihoods of thousands of families. According to her, the government’s delay in addressing these issues affects the workers’ rights, and officials have a responsibility to respond to these legitimate demands.

She further stated that the fight for Singareni workers’ rights will continue, regardless of government pressure. The protest will persist through democratic means until justice is delivered to the employees. Kavitha also noted that the struggle aims to safeguard workers’ dignity, job security, and the future of their families.

During the protest, police arrested Kavitha along with HMS General Secretary Riaz Ahmed, President Tippa Raju, and several other leaders and took them to Nampally Police Station.

Historically, if a Singareni worker passes away or becomes physically unfit to work, their family members are provided dependent employment. However, the suspension of this policy in recent times has caused difficulties for thousands of families. The demand to reinstate dependent employment has therefore gained momentum.

Protesters are also calling for the formation of a medical board to assess the health eligibility of employees who are unable to work due to medical conditions. Such a board would ensure that affected workers and their families can access dependent jobs or other benefits more easily.
