
Karur stampede: TVK transfers Rs 20 lakh to victims families, CBI probe underway
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has transferred Rs 20 lakh to the families of the 41 people who died in the Karur stampede on September 27, party chief Vijay confirmed the transfer in a statement.
Vijay said, _“We had announced on September 28 that we would provide support. On October 18, the amount was transferred through RTGS as a family welfare fund. We hope the families accept this as a gesture of our compassion.”_ He added that the party is taking legal steps to arrange a personal meeting with the families once permission is granted.
Expressing condolences, Vijay said, _“The tragic incident in Karur has left us all mourning. In this difficult time, we will stand with the affected families, offering support and comfort. With God’s grace, we will get through this together.”_
Earlier, on October 15, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin stated that a total of Rs 4.87 crore in compensation has been provided to the victims’ families.
Following a Supreme Court directive, IPS officer Praveen Kumar arrived in Karur on Friday to lead the CBI investigation into the stampede. A special CBI team, including Additional Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar and Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramakrishnan, has joined him in Karur. Documents previously held by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) have been handed over to the CBI.
The Supreme Court also set up a three-member committee, headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice Ajay Rastogi, to monitor the CBI probe and ensure the investigation is independent and impartial.
