Madras High Court has temporarily halted the release of Karthi’s upcoming Tamil film Vaa Vaathiyaar and its Telugu version Annagaru Vostharu due to unresolved financial dues by the producers. The interim stay follows a petition by S. Arjunlal Sunderdas, a financier whose estate is being handled by the court’s official liquidator. Sunderdas had invested ₹ 10.35 crore in the production house Studio Green, managed by producer K. E. Gnanavel Raja, and the court had previously directed repayment of the principal along with 18% annual interest. The producers’ claim that Sunderdas would recover his investment through Hindi remake rights of other films was not substantiated with legal proof, leading the court to intervene. Until the debt issue is resolved, the court has prevented the film from being released in theatres.

Annagaru Vostharu is the Telugu version of the Tamil film Vaa Vaathiyaar , directed by Nalan Kumarasamy and produced by Studio Green. The film stars Karthi as a police officer and Krithi Shetty as the female lead, with supporting roles by Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Anandaraj, and Shilpa Manjunath. Music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography is by George C. Williams, and editing is handled by Vetri Krishnan. Early teasers suggest that the film blends action, comedy, and drama, with Karthi’s character involved in a story about legacy, ideals, and heroism.

The Tamil version, Vaa Vaathiyaar , had been scheduled for release on 5 December 2025 and later postponed to 12 December. However, the interim stay issued by the Madras High Court has put both the Tamil and Telugu releases on hold. The next hearing in the financial dispute is scheduled for 8 December 2025, after which the court will decide whether the release can proceed. Until then, distributors and fans remain uncertain, eagerly awaiting updates on when the film will finally hit theatres.

This situation highlights the complexities of film financing, where unpaid dues and unresolved legal matters can directly impact release schedules, even for films that are ready for distribution.
