Karthi Drops A Surprise CM Vijay, Politics And ‘Kaithi 2’ Update Ahead Of ‘Sardar 2’
Karthi has made headlines with his candid comments on piracy, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, politics, Suriya and ‘Kaithi 2’ as his upcoming film ‘Sardar 2’ prepares for its worldwide theatrical release on September 10, 2026.
During a promotional interaction in Madurai, Karthi addressed the growing problem of films being leaked online within hours of their theatrical release. Calling piracy a major threat to box-office collections, he expressed confidence that strong action would be taken. Karthi revealed that he had personally raised the issue with Chief Minister Vijay and said the latter understands the seriousness of the problem. He also hoped that measures would be taken to protect the livelihoods of thousands of people dependent on theatrical releases.
Karthi also put to rest speculation about his political ambitions. When asked about entering politics, he made it clear that he has no intention of doing so, adding that his focus is to deliver good films.
The actor also entertained fans with his trademark humour while answering a question about his brother Suriya. Karthi joked about being good at teasing Suriya, while his elder brother is better at beating him. He also playfully compared himself and Suriya through references to ‘Kaithi’ and ‘Singam’, drawing laughter from the audience.
When fans began chanting for ‘Kaithi 2’, Karthi reassured them that the sequel would happen. He humorously suggested that audiences should first allow ‘Sardar 2’ to release before asking director Lokesh Kanagaraj for the next chapter.
Meanwhile, ‘Sardar 2’ is scheduled to hit theatres on September 10. Directed by P.S. Mithran, the sequel brings Karthi back in dual roles and expands the spy-action universe of the 2022 original. The recently released trailer explores Sardar’s past while connecting it to the journey of his son Vijay Prakash. S.J. Suryah plays the antagonist Dagger, setting up a major confrontation with Karthi.
The sequel also introduces a fresh environmental angle. Karthi said Mithran had explored water-related issues in the first film, while ‘Sardar 2’ takes up another pressing real-world concern. S.J. Suryah revealed that his character takes a stand against plastic pollution and explores the consequences of ignoring environmental warnings. The film also gives its female characters substantial roles, with Ashika Ranganath and others playing important parts.
The cast includes Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, Rajisha Vijayan, Yogi Babu and Achyuth Kumar, with Sam CS composing the music. The team has also embarked on a statewide promotional campaign, including temple visits, theatre interactions and a student event in Madurai.
Karthi additionally reflected on the response to his films after ‘Kaithi’ and ‘Sardar’, pointing to the appreciation received by ‘Meiyazhagan’. He said filmmakers make movies hoping to earn the audience’s appreciation and are prepared to accept both praise and criticism.
Adding to the buzz around Karthi, director Sundar C has confirmed that discussions are underway for another film with the actor. While details remain under wraps, Sundar C described the proposed project as a happy and entertaining film.
