Karnataka Veterinary Doctors Allege ₹80 Lakh KPSC Recruitment Scam

A group of veterinary doctors in Karnataka has approached the Vidhana Soudha Police, alleging large-scale irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment process for 400 Veterinary Officer posts in the Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department. They have sought a detailed probe into the selection process.

The recruitment examination was conducted in January 2026, while the final selection list was published on July 17. The complainants alleged that several candidates were approached by middlemen who demanded between ₹70 lakh and ₹80 lakh to secure appointments. They claimed to have submitted audio recordings of conversations related to the alleged deals to the police.

The veterinary doctors also alleged that some tests were conducted at resorts and questioned the marks obtained by certain selected candidates, claiming that the results had raised serious doubts over the fairness and transparency of the recruitment process.

They further alleged that some high-scoring candidates were relatives of individuals holding influential positions in the KPSC. Some complainants also claimed that several successful candidates had previously failed in their degree examinations.

The allegations come amid heightened scrutiny of the KPSC following the suspension of Chairman Shivashankarappa S Sahukar by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on July 13. The action followed allegations that he had facilitated the alleged illegal selection of his two daughters as industrial extension officers.

The issue has triggered a political controversy, with the BJP accusing the Congress government of allowing corruption in recruitment. The party alleged that an audio clip purportedly linked to an ₹80 lakh deal for a Veterinary Officer post had surfaced and demanded an immediate suspension of the recruitment process, an independent high-level inquiry and action against those involved.

Karnataka Leader of Opposition R Ashoka also alleged a “cash-for-jobs” system in the state and questioned the government's silence over the allegations. The claims have not yet been independently established, and the police are expected to examine the complaint and evidence submitted by the veterinary doctors.
