Karnataka horror crash: Nine family members die after vehicle catches fire in Surpur

A devastating road accident in Surpur taluk of Yadgir district claimed the lives of nine members of a single family after their car collided with a private bus and burst into flames on Friday, police said.

The accident took place near Shantapura Cross when the Compact Utility Vehicle carrying the family reportedly suffered a tyre burst . The driver lost control, leading to a head-on collision with a private bus. Moments after the impact, the car caught fire and was completely gutted.

According to police, a total of 10 people, including five children , were travelling in the vehicle. Four occupants, including children, were burnt alive at the spot, while others were rushed to the Yadgiri Institute of Medical Sciences . Nine victims were declared dead at the hospital. One child, Virat (10) , survived and is undergoing treatment.

The deceased include Krishna Nayak (52) and his wife Anantha Kala (45), Sharanappa (36) and his wife Nisarga (30), along with children Siddhartha (3), Advik (5), Srinidhi (1.5), Shashikala (30), and her son Chandan (8). Officials said all were relatives travelling together from Sirwar taluk in Raichur district back to their hometown.

Police said the bus was travelling from Bengaluru to Kalaburagi and all 20 passengers on board are safe. Fire and emergency services rushed to the spot and doused the flames, but both vehicles were completely destroyed.

Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar said preliminary findings point to a tyre burst as the trigger , though a detailed investigation is underway.
