Karimnagar Mayor’s Post Is Ours, Says Conspiracy Will Lead to Battle: Bandi Sanjay
Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar alleged that the Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) are working together to prevent the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from securing the Mayor’s post in the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation .
Speaking to the media in Hyderabad on Saturday, he said that although the BJP emerged as the single largest party in the municipal elections, other parties were attempting to block it politically by joining hands.
The Karimnagar Municipal Corporation has a total of 66 wards . The BJP won 30 wards , emerging in the lead. The Congress secured 14 seats, BRS 9, AIMIM 3, and the All India Forward Bloc 3, while seven Independent candidates won. In this context, Sanjay alleged that the three parties were collaborating to deny the BJP the Mayor’s position.
He said the BJP had earlier stated that the BRS and Congress were “ two sides of the same coin ,” and that recent developments in Karimnagar were exposing their political understanding. He claimed that leaders of the two parties were holding open discussions on the matter and referred to remarks by a BRS MLA stating that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy himself was coordinating the issue.
Sanjay further alleged that attempts were made to lure a BJP candidate with inducements, but the offer was rejected. He demanded clarity on whether the alleged Congress-BRS coordination was a local decision or directed by the party high command.
He expressed confidence that Independent members who won in Karimnagar had assured support to the BJP and that the party would ultimately secure the Mayor’s post. Accusing the BRS, Congress and AIMIM of entering into a “dark pact” to poach BJP corporators, he asserted that the people’s mandate was in the BJP’s favour and that “ no matter how many conspiracies are hatched, the Karimnagar Mayor’s seat belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party .” He warned that the BJP cadre would demonstrate its strength if provoked.
Referring to the proposed division of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, he alleged that the Congress government had taken decisions in political understanding with AIMIM and BRS. He expressed confidence that the BJP would come to power in the three corporations expected to be formed in the future.
Meanwhile, in the municipal election results declared on February 13, the Congress registered a significant victory across Telangana, while the BRS and BJP also demonstrated their presence, triggering fresh political debate in the state.
