Kanpur Crash: Lamborghini Released on Rs 8.3-Crore Security Bond
A Lamborghini Revuelto involved in a high-profile road crash that left six people injured earlier this month was released from police custody after the owner furnished a security bond valued at Rs 8.30 crore , officials said on Saturday.
The luxury vehicle was handed over late Friday night following permission from the court. Chief Judicial Magistrate Suraj Mishra ordered the release of the car owned by Shivam Mishra , son of tobacco businessman KK Mishra, District Government Counsel (Crime) Dileep Awasthi told PTI.
Clarifying the nature of the bond, the defence said it was not a cash deposit. Securities worth about Rs 7.5 crore , along with documents of two vehicles valued at nearly Rs 1 crore , were submitted before the court as surety to secure custody. The application was moved through Mishra’s power of attorney holder, Sunil Kumar, soon after the February 8 accident.
The court imposed stringent conditions while granting custody, directing that the vehicle must not be sold or transferred, and that no changes be made to its colour, engine number or chassis number. The owner has also been directed to produce the car before the court or investigating officer whenever required, at his own expense.
Commissioner of Police Raghubir Lal said the car was taken out of Gwaltoli Police Station shortly after midnight and transported on a trailer truck to avoid traffic congestion in the densely populated locality.
Shivam Mishra was arrested on February 12 but secured bail within hours as the offences invoked carry a punishment of less than seven years. The court had earlier granted him bail on a personal bond of Rs 20,000, questioning the need for custodial remand.
On February 8, the allegedly speeding Lamborghini rammed into multiple commuters on VIP Road in Kanpur’s upscale Gwaltoli area, injuring six people, including e-rickshaw puller Mohd Taufiq, who sustained serious injuries. The incident sparked public outrage and scrutiny of the probe, particularly amid conflicting claims over who was driving at the time. Police maintain that Shivam Mishra was behind the wheel, a claim disputed by the defence.
Meanwhile, injured biker Vishal Tripathi said his damaged motorcycle remains in police custody and that he would approach authorities for its release.
