Kamal Haasan Marks 67 Years in Cinema With Legacy, Versatility and New-Age Ambitions

Veteran actor Kamal Haasan is marking 67 years in cinema, with fans and the film fraternity celebrating a career defined by remarkable versatility, experimentation and enduring influence.

Haasan began his journey as a six-year-old child artiste in the 1960 Tamil film 'Kalathur Kannamma', earning the President's Gold Medal, now recognised as the National Film Award for Best Child Artist. That early recognition laid the foundation for a career spanning more than six decades and over 200 roles.

His versatility has been evident in his ability to portray vastly different characters across romance, comedy, action, drama, crime and experimental cinema. Haasan has also worked across six Indian languages, while contributing to films as an actor, director, writer, producer, playback singer and choreographer.

Among his major achievements are four National Film Awards and 21 Filmfare Awards. He has also received the Padma Shri in 1990 and Padma Bhushan in 2014 for his contribution to Indian cinema. His acclaimed film 'Nayakan' was India's official entry for the Academy Awards.
