Kaleshwaram Temple to Host Saraswati Antya Pushkaralu from May 21
Telangana is preparing for one of its most significant spiritual gatherings as the Saraswati Antya Pushkaralu is set to be held from May 21 to June 1 at the revered Kaleshwaram Temple. The 12-day festival, which occurs once in 12 years, is expected to draw nearly 30 lakh devotees , prompting the state to roll out extensive infrastructure and logistical arrangements.
The announcement was formally marked with the unveiling of the event’s poster and teaser by Endowments Minister Konda Surekha and IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu at the Secretariat, signaling the beginning of full-scale preparations.
At the heart of the event lies the spiritual significance of the Saraswati Pushkaralu , a rare festival aligned with the transit of Jupiter into Mithuna Rasi , during which devotees believe that a ritual bath can cleanse sins and grant spiritual merit. The sanctity of Kaleshwaram is further elevated by its Triveni Sangam , where the Godavari, Pranahita, and the mystical Saraswati rivers are believed to converge, making it a focal point for sacred rituals.
To handle the massive influx, the government has taken up 162 development works worth ₹30.63 crore , focusing on improving ghats, sanitation, drinking water supply, medical services, and queue management systems for darshan. Officials have been instructed to complete all works well in advance, with a clear emphasis on inter-departmental coordination and traffic regulation to avoid bottlenecks during peak days.
Minister Sridhar Babu underscored the importance of finishing arrangements at least 10 days prior to the festival, noting that seamless coordination among departments would be critical for crowd management. He also acknowledged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for sanctioning ₹198 crore towards the long-term development of the temple and surrounding infrastructure.
According to Endowments Principal Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyer, the Pushkaralu will begin with the first holy dip at 5:43 AM on May 21 , led by seer Shankara Vijayendra Saraswati. Ritual bathing will continue daily in an organised manner, while evening harathi at the Triveni Sangam will be performed at 6:30 PM under the guidance of priests from Kashi. Invitations have also been extended to the State Governor to attend the inaugural ceremony.
Beyond its religious importance, the event is being positioned as a key driver of spiritual tourism and regional development . The government is leveraging the Pushkaralu to strengthen Kaleshwaram’s identity as a major pilgrimage hub, building on its track record of successfully hosting large-scale events such as the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara.
With preparations in full swing and lessons drawn from previous mega gatherings, Telangana is aiming to deliver a well-managed, safe, and spiritually fulfilling experience for millions of pilgrims, while simultaneously boosting the region’s cultural and economic profile.
