Kakani Alleges Large-Scale Illegal Mining in Sarvepalli, Demands Immediate Action
Former Minister and YSR Congress Party’s joint Nellore district president Kakani Govardhan Reddy on Sunday raised serious allegations over continuing illegal excavation activities in parts of the Sarvepalli Assembly constituency in Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district.
Kakani, along with villagers from affected areas, visited the District Mining Department office in Nellore and submitted a representation to the Deputy Director of Mines . In his complaint, he sought immediate stoppage of alleged illegal gravel, sand, and soil extraction, along with strict action against those involved.
He claimed that officials themselves had confirmed that the mining permissions granted for gravel excavation at Kandalapadu had expired on April 30, 2026 , yet operations were still continuing on the ground without valid authorisation. This, he alleged, reflects a serious lapse in enforcement by the authorities.
The former minister further alleged that a private firm, AMR company , was collecting royalty charges illegally. He also accused those involved in the operations of forcing farmers to pay money even for transporting soil to their own agricultural lands, calling it exploitation of rural communities.
According to Kakani, the ongoing mining activity has caused severe damage to agricultural lands that have been cultivated for generations. He said families dependent on paddy fields, lemon orchards, and vegetable farming are facing livelihood loss due to uncontrolled excavation. He also warned that deep pits created by mining activities are becoming hazardous, posing risks to both human lives and livestock.
He also levelled allegations against former minister Somireddy , claiming he was receiving monthly benefits ranging between Rs.15 lakh and Rs.20 lakh through the mining operations. He challenged him to publicly deny the charges in a more serious manner, including taking an oath if necessary.
Kakani further alleged that individuals using police stickers on private vehicles were intimidating locals and obstructing transport vehicles in the region. He claimed that illegal mining was not limited to one village but was also spreading across Ananthasagaram, Buchireddypalem, Sangam, Viruvuru, and Surayapalem areas.
He warned that the party would escalate the issue legally and approach bodies such as the Lokayukta, Green Tribunal, and courts if authorities fail to act promptly.
