Kajal Aggarwal Says Social Media Is Affecting Relationships Reveals Her Weekly Rule

Actress Kajal Aggarwal has opened up about modern relationships, rising divorces and the growing influence of social media, saying intolerance and excessive phone usage can affect communication between couples. She also revealed the simple weekly ritual she follows with husband Gautam Kitchlu to make sure they spend quality time together.

Kajal discussed relationships and marriage during her July 2026 appearance on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast. Speaking about changing relationship dynamics, she questioned whether couples today are spending enough time talking to each other when smartphones and social media constantly compete for their attention.

Kajal said she personally feels “intolerance” is one factor behind the rise in divorces and pointed to people becoming increasingly consumed by social media. She described a situation where a husband and wife may be sitting together but are both scrolling through their phones instead of talking to each other.

The actress also highlighted how social media can shape expectations around relationships. Carefully curated images of other couples, lifestyles and happiness can create comparisons and potentially make people question their own relationships, according to reports on her comments.

Kajal, however, has revealed that she and Gautam make a conscious effort to avoid falling into that pattern. The couple go out for dinner once every week, giving them time away from their regular routines to talk and reconnect. She considers the weekly outing an important way of investing time in their relationship.

Interestingly, Kajal and Gautam’s own relationship began with friendship. The two first met through common friends and remained close for several years before they started dating. Kajal has previously said they were friends for around seven years before dating for about three years.

The COVID-19 lockdown became an important turning point for them. After being unable to meet regularly for weeks, the couple realised how much they wanted to be together and eventually decided to build a life together.

Gautam proposed to Kajal in an intimate and emotional manner rather than through a grand gesture. The couple got engaged in June 2020 and married in Mumbai on October 30 that year. They later welcomed their son Neil in 2022.

Kajal’s comments have now sparked fresh discussion about communication, digital distractions and relationships, with her own weekly dinner ritual offering a glimpse into how the actress and Gautam make space for each other despite busy lives.
