Kadapa Minor Murder Case: Police Open Fire on Accused During Arrest Bid

A key development has emerged in the sensational minor girl murder case in Kazipet area of Kadapa district, with police opening fire on the accused while attempting to apprehend him.

According to officials, the main accused, 19-year-old Venkateshwarlu , was shot after he allegedly attempted to attack police personnel with a knife while trying to evade arrest. Acting in self-defence , the police fired three rounds , resulting in a bullet injury to the accused’s leg . Two constables also sustained minor injuries in the incident.

As per the police account, the victim, an Intermediate student , had been facing persistent harassment from the accused, who was pressuring her to marry him. Despite her clear refusal , he continued to pursue her.

On Friday afternoon, taking advantage of the girl being alone at home, the accused allegedly entered the house and again raised the issue of marriage. A heated argument ensued, following which he, in a fit of rage, slit her throat with a knife and fled the scene.

Immediately after the murder, police launched a manhunt for the accused. At around 11:30 pm on Friday , they received information that he was hiding in the Ranibagh forest area near the Maidukur–Badvel road .

Special teams reached the spot and attempted to apprehend him, but he allegedly charged at the police with a knife , injuring two constables. In response, police issued warnings and then opened fire in self-defence , injuring him in the leg.

The injured accused was shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Kadapa , for treatment.

Speaking on the incident, Maidukur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rajendra Prasad said that cases have been registered against the accused under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita , along with charges for attacking public servants . He added that the investigation is ongoing and the accused’s condition is stable .
