Kabaddi Promoter Murder: Key Shooter Held in Multi-State Operation in Tripura
Punjab Police has arrested Aditya alias Makhan, a key shooter allegedly involved in the killing of kabaddi promoter-cum-player Kanwar Digvijay Singh alias Rana Balachauria , in a coordinated operation from Agartala, Tripura.
The arrest was carried out by the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) in collaboration with central agencies and Tripura Police, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said. Officials confirmed that Makhan had been absconding since the incident and was considered a crucial link in the case.
Rana Balachauria (30) was shot dead during a kabaddi tournament at Sohana in Mohali on December 15, 2025 , in a planned attack that triggered a large-scale investigation across multiple states.
Police sources said the killing was allegedly executed on the instructions of foreign-based handlers , indicating an organised crime network operating beyond India. Earlier, several co-accused were arrested from Kolkata after a nationwide tracking operation involving multiple state police units.
Investigators also revealed that the accused had travelled across several states to evade arrest, and the case is now being treated as part of a broader inter-state gang-linked conspiracy .
A Mohali Police chargesheet against eight accused has already been filed, while multiple suspects remain under investigation. One accused was killed in a police encounter during earlier phases of the probe.
Authorities say the latest arrest marks a significant breakthrough in dismantling the criminal network linked to the murder, and further interrogations are expected to uncover additional connections and handlers involved in the case.
