K Annamalai to Launch Tamil Nadu-Wide Coastal Clean-Up Drive Under ‘We The Leaders’

Former BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai is set to launch a statewide coastal clean-up campaign under his "We The Leaders" movement, with the initiative aimed at tackling pollution, improving the upkeep of coastal tourist and heritage destinations, and promoting environmental awareness.

Annamalai will visit Kanyakumari on August 2 to formally launch the campaign from Kanyakumari Beach Road. Similar clean-up drives are scheduled at Uvari in Tirunelveli district and Manapad and Tiruchendur in Thoothukudi district.

The campaign is being positioned as an effort to address coastal pollution and protect the cleanliness and environmental value of Tamil Nadu's beaches, while also supporting the upkeep of important tourist and heritage locations. During his visit, Annamalai is also expected to interact with local fishermen, bringing coastal communities into the environmental initiative.

Kanyakumari has reportedly recorded the highest number of volunteers for the "We The Leaders" movement, which Annamalai announced on June 5. The coastal campaign is therefore also expected to serve as a platform for engaging young volunteers and local communities in public-service activities.

The initiative comes after Annamalai's exit from the BJP following meetings with the party's top leadership in New Delhi. He held the movement's maiden conference in Pollachi on July 12, focusing on social advocacy and the need to combat drug abuse.

The coastal clean-up drive is thus being seen as a combination of environmental action, community participation and social advocacy, with the movement seeking to build a grassroots network across Tamil Nadu.
