Jyotiba Phule’s Ideals Guiding Education Reforms, Says CM Revanth Reddy

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said his government was implementing wide-ranging education and social reforms inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule, with a focus on empowering young people through education and skills.

Revanth Reddy made the remarks on Friday after unveiling the newly installed statues of Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule near the HMDA Grounds on Necklace Road. He paid floral tributes to the social reformers in the presence of ministers, government advisers, public representatives, students and youth.

The Chief Minister recalled that Jyotirao Phule identified education as a pathway to social progress nearly 150 years ago and personally educated Savitribai, who went on to become a pioneer of women’s education. Their principles, he said, remain relevant in addressing social inequalities and creating greater awareness.

The government was undertaking a comprehensive transformation of the education system, from nursery to Class 12, by combining academics with skill development. Integrated residential schools were being established to provide students with quality education, nutritious food and other facilities. From the current academic year, fee reimbursement would be paid in advance, with around ₹2,300 crore being credited annually to students’ accounts.

Revanth Reddy stressed that certificates alone were insufficient in today’s job market and that technical skills were equally important. He said integrated residential schools were being established across 119 constituencies with Tata’s support, while students undergoing training were receiving a monthly stipend of ₹2,000. He cited Germany and Japan as examples of countries offering strong opportunities for skilled workers.

The government was also promoting sporting talent through the Young India Sports University. The Chief Minister assured that medal-winning athletes would receive financial incentives and government employment support.

On social justice, Revanth Reddy said his government wanted BC children to aspire to become IAS and IPS officers, legislators and ministers, rather than remain confined to traditional occupations. He highlighted the completion of the BC caste census and the government’s efforts to address SC categorisation, saying population data was essential for ensuring fair access to jobs and opportunities.

Revanth Reddy said he was committed to working for the future of Telangana’s youth and urged students to draw inspiration from the Phules, set ambitious goals and make the most of available opportunities.
