India's wait for a medal at the ISSF World Cup in Hangzhou finally came to an end on Friday as Sainyam produced a composed and impressive performance to claim the silver medal in the women's 10m air pistol, giving the country its first podium finish of the competition. The Indian shooter scored 243.4 in a high-quality final, finishing just 0.2 points behind China's world No. 1 Qianxun Yao, who clinched gold on home soil.

The silver came as a timely boost for the Indian contingent after a disappointing start to the World Cup, where the team had gone through the opening two days without a medal despite fielding a strong squad. The Hangzhou meet is India's final major international assignment before the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya later this year, making every performance a key indicator of the team's readiness for the continental showpiece.

Sainyam displayed remarkable composure throughout the final, staying in contention for gold until the closing shots. She matched the world's best for most of the contest before narrowly missing the top step of the podium by the slimmest of margins. There was further Indian representation in the final through Suruchi, who also qualified among the top eight shooters but finished seventh after an early elimination. While she could not mount a serious medal challenge, reaching the final reflected India's depth in the discipline.

Vidarsa Vinod and Gurjoat Khangura both finished sixth in their respective events, while other experienced shooters fell short of expectations.
