
Junior Stenographer Jobs at CSIR-NML: Apply Online by December 31, 2025
CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), Jamshedpur has issued Recruitment Advertisement No. 07/2025 inviting online applications from Indian citizens for the post of Junior Stenographer. The recruitment is for Group C, non-gazetted posts in Pay Level-4 with approximate starting emoluments of about Rs. 48,000 per month including admissible allowances in a Y-class city.
The notification announces a total of five Junior Stenographer vacancies, of which two are Unreserved (UR), one is for Economically Weaker Section (EWS), one for Scheduled Caste (SC) and one for Scheduled Tribe (ST). Out of these, one post is reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability in the category of blindness or low vision, as per prevailing government norms.
Applicants must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination and possess proficiency in stenography as per standards prescribed by the Department of Personnel and Training. The prescribed age limit is 18 to 27 years, with relaxations for SC, ST, OBC (NCL), EWS, PwBD, ex-servicemen, widows, divorced women and other eligible categories as per Government of India and CSIR rules.
The selection process will consist of a competitive written examination followed by a stenography proficiency test, which will be qualifying in nature. The written test will be OMR or computer-based, objective type, of two hours’ duration, carrying 200 questions: 50 each from General Intelligence & Reasoning and General Awareness, and 100 from English Language & Comprehension, with negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in all parts.
For the stenography test, candidates will be given a 10-minute dictation in English or Hindi at the speed of 80 words per minute, with different transcription times prescribed for English, Hindi and candidates eligible for scribes. Only those who qualify the stenography test will be considered for the final merit list, which will be prepared solely on the basis of marks obtained in the written examination.
Online application was opened on December 1, 2025 at 11:00 hours IST and will remain available till December 31, 2025 up to 23:00 hours on the CSIR-NML website, with no other mode of application accepted. Candidates are required to pay an application fee of Rs. 500 through SBI Collect, while SC, ST, PwBD, women candidates, CSIR employees and eligible ex-servicemen are exempted from payment of the fee.
New appointees will be covered under the National Pension System and will be entitled to allowances like Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance and Transport Allowance as per Central Government and CSIR rules. The normal place of posting will be CSIR-NML, Jamshedpur, including its centre at Chennai, though selected candidates may be posted in any CSIR laboratory or field centre across India at the discretion of the competent authority.
