Journalist safety under threat, alleges former Minister Sailajanath
Former minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Dr. Sake Sailajanath has raised concern over the safety of journalists in Andhra Pradesh, alleging that those reporting on local irregularities are facing threats under the coalition government.
Dr. Sailajanath visited Pasuluru village in Bukkarayasamudram mandal after reports surfaced that a local journalist was allegedly threatened by individuals involved in illegal red soil mining. He met the journalist’s family and assured them of his support. Speaking to Bukkarayasamudram Sub-Inspector Ram Prasad over the phone, he reportedly urged the police to take strict action and to file a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against those responsible if the allegations were proven true.
The former minister claimed that two local individuals linked to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) entered the journalist’s home at night, used caste-based remarks, and intimidated family members. He said such incidents create fear among journalists and called for swift investigation by authorities.
Dr. Sailajanath also visited layouts in the Jagananna Colony area, where he alleged that red soil was being illegally transported. He questioned why local representatives were silent if such activities were occurring in government layouts.
“There appears to be growing insecurity among journalists who are reporting fearlessly on local issues. The government must ensure their protection and take action against those threatening them,” Sailajanath said.
However, as of now, no official police confirmation or independent verification of the alleged attack has been made public. The claims remain allegations raised by the YSR Congress Party leader, pending further investigation.
