India and Malaysia are strengthening their defence partnership as the fifth edition of the joint military exercise Harimau Shakti 2025 progresses at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan. The exercise, underway from December 5 to 18, focuses on enhancing interoperability, operational preparedness and joint combat readiness through realistic, mission-oriented training.

Troops from both armies are engaged in a wide range of joint activities designed to reflect contemporary operational challenges. These include Army Martial Arts Routine (AMAR) drills, helicopter slithering and low-hover jumps from MI-17 helicopters, and counter-IED familiarisation through structured briefings and visits to specialised training facilities.

A joint display of weapons and equipment has showcased company- and battalion-level special arms, including Next Generation Equipment and Weapons, offering both sides exposure to each other’s capabilities. Activities such as yoga sessions and friendly sports events have also been conducted to promote physical fitness, camaraderie and team cohesion.

As part of the ongoing training module, troops were introduced to Counter-Insurgency and Counter-Terrorism (CI/CT) concepts, followed by detailed lectures and demonstrations on patrolling techniques. Mixed teams carried out joint patrolling rehearsals to improve coordination, situational awareness and mission planning under simulated operational conditions.

The exercise has also featured ambush theory sessions and practical demonstrations aimed at strengthening small-team offensive skills. A structured Command Post Exercise (CPX) reinforced tactical planning and battlefield management, while slithering drills highlighted critical heliborne insertion techniques suitable for dense and restrictive terrain.

With progressive modules covering ambush manoeuvres, heliborne operations, live firing practices and seamless joint patrolling, Harimau Shakti 2025 continues to sharpen tactical proficiency and adaptability to modern warfare scenarios.

According to the Indian Army, the exercise aims to jointly rehearse sub-conventional operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations mandate, with a focus on coordinated counter-terrorist responses. Tactical actions being practised include cordon-and-search operations, search-and-destroy missions and heliborne deployments, along with combat reflex shooting and yoga.

The ongoing exercise stands as a testament to the growing mutual trust, professional bonds and defence cooperation between the Indian Army and the Malaysian Army, reaffirming both nations’ commitment to regional security and stability.
