Johnny Depp Hints at Jack Sparrow Comeback in 'Pirates of the Caribbean 6'
Hollywood actor Johnny Depp has hinted at a possible return as the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow in 'Pirates of the Caribbean 6', expressing his willingness to reprise the role if the upcoming film delivers a satisfying conclusion to the popular franchise.
Speaking during the promotional tour for his upcoming film 'Ebenezer', the Oscar-nominated actor said he would be happy to work with franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer, whom he considers a close friend. However, Depp emphasised that his primary interest would be to give the franchise a fitting ending.
“If things are exactly where they need to be with regard to how they are going to top off the 'Pirates' franchise, the only involvement I really want to have is just to send them off on a better note,” Depp said, as quoted by Variety. He added that he trusted Bruckheimer and would be willing to work with him on any project.
The possibility of Depp's return has been discussed for some time. In 2025, Bruckheimer confirmed that he had spoken with the actor about a potential sixth instalment. The producer indicated that Depp could consider returning if he liked the screenplay, stressing that the project depended on getting the script right.
Bruckheimer also told Deadline at the D23 event that discussions with Depp were underway and expressed hope that the film would move forward. He confirmed that the team was still working on the screenplay and had not yet finalised it.
Depp first portrayed Captain Jack Sparrow in the 2003 film 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl', directed by Gore Verbinski. He subsequently reprised the character in 'Dead Man's Chest' (2006), 'At World's End' (2007), 'On Stranger Tides' (2011) and 'Dead Men Tell No Tales' (2017).
While Depp's latest comments have renewed speculation about his return, his casting in 'Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has not been officially confirmed.
