J&K Police Raid 20+ Houses, Detain Suspect Over Alleged Online Radical Content

Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified their crackdown on suspected terror-related and radicalisation activities, conducting searches at more than 20 residential properties in Sopore and raids across six districts of the Valley.

On Sunday, police searched over 20 houses in Sopore, Baramulla district, as part of an investigation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Officials said the properties were linked to individuals associated with the banned Jamaat-e-Islami. The searches were carried out in connection with a UAPA case registered by Sopore Police.

The action followed Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) raids on Saturday across Kupwara, Baramulla, Budgam, Anantnag, Shopian and Bandipora. The operation targeted suspected terror-related activities, online misuse and alleged radicalisation networks. During the raids, CIK detained Siraj Nabi Parray, a resident of Archanderhama in Magam, Budgam, after scrutiny of his social media activity. Officials alleged that he operated an account that disseminated radical and potentially extremist content.

Investigators reportedly identified posts, images and other digital material containing radical narratives, alleged glorification of individuals associated with terrorism, extremist viewpoints and content capable of influencing or radicalising impressionable persons.

The CIK investigation stems from an FIR registered at its Srinagar police station under Sections 505 and 153-A of the IPC and Sections 13 and 18 of the UAPA. Parray was produced before an Executive Magistrate First Class, where proceedings under Sections 126/170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were initiated. He was subsequently remanded to judicial custody until August 17 and lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar.
