J&K Police Attach Drug-Linked Properties Worth Rs 7.7 Crore in Kathua

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday attached immovable properties worth over Rs 7.7 crore belonging to two detained alleged drug peddlers in Kathua district , officials said. The action is part of an intensified crackdown on narcotics trafficking networks and assets suspected to have been acquired through illegal drug trade proceeds.

According to officials, the major attachment includes property worth approximately Rs 7.35 crore belonging to Harpaul Singh alias Balochi , a resident of Kathua who is currently detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, 1988.

The attached assets comprise approximately 6 kanal 18 marla (about 0.86 acres) of land , along with a single-storey residential house with a basement. The house has a plinth area of 2,107 square feet and is located in Chak Sheikha village in Kathua district.

In a separate action, police also attached immovable property worth Rs 35.85 lakh belonging to alleged drug peddler Mohd Sadiq alias Shiku , a resident of Galak village in Ramkot tehsil of Kathua district. The property includes two single-storey residential houses . Sadiq is currently lodged in Kot Bhalwal Central Jail in Jammu .

Investigators said the properties were found, prima facie, to have been acquired through proceeds generated from the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

The action was carried out under the supervision of Kathua Senior Superintendent of Police Mohita Sharma . Officials said the properties were formally attached under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act after being identified as illegally acquired during the course of investigation.

Local residents welcomed the move, calling it a strong step in curbing narcotics-related activities in the region.
