In a thrilling start to the one-off Women’s Test between India Women and Australia Women at the WACA Ground, India posted a competitive total before the hosts ended Day 1 in a solid position.

Australia won the toss and elected to bowl, and India responded with determination, reaching 198 all out in 62.4 overs .

Jemimah Rodrigues starred with a gritty 52 , while Shafali Verma (35) and Harmanpreet Kaur (19) provided valuable support. Australia’s disciplined bowling, led by Annabel Sutherland (4/46) and Lucy Hamilton (3/31) , kept the Indian batters in check.

Australia began their reply cautiously, finishing 96/3 at stumps , still trailing by 102 runs . The innings featured a memorable moment as Alyssa Healy , playing her final international match , was dismissed for 13 by India’s Sayali Satghare , marking the end of an illustrious career.

Ellyse Perry held the innings together with 43 not out , supported by Annabel Sutherland, unbeaten on 20 , as Australia sought to regain momentum. India’s bowlers, including Kranti Gaud , struck early and showed fight to keep the visitors under pressure.

At the close of play, Australia had the slight edge, but India will look to capitalize on the remaining wickets and turn the Test in their favor on Day 2. The stage is set for an exciting contest, with Healy’s farewell adding an emotional layer to a gripping Day 1 at the WACA.
