Jeevan Reddy Set to Join BRS, Jagtial Meeting Signals Political Shift in Telangana
A politically significant development is unfolding in Telangana as senior leader and former minister T. Jeevan Reddy moves closer to joining the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) , marking the end of his long-standing association with the Congress party . The shift gained prominence after K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) visited Jeevan Reddy’s residence in Jagtial, formally inviting him into the party on behalf of K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) . The meeting, seen as more than a courtesy call, has triggered discussions about a potential political realignment in north Telangana.
Jeevan Reddy, a veteran with over four decades in Congress, has been a prominent figure with deep grassroots influence. However, he described his decision to leave the party as “emotional but necessary,” citing dissatisfaction over the past 20 months and concerns about the diminishing role of senior leaders within the party. His remarks point to growing internal challenges within Congress at a time when it is navigating governance responsibilities.
From the BRS perspective, the development is being projected as a strategic consolidation effort. KTR emphasized the importance of experienced leadership, while also criticizing the current government over delays in welfare measures. He pointed to issues such as pending Rythu Bandhu payments, estimated dues of nearly ₹27,000 crore , and the incomplete implementation of promises like the six guarantees and two lakh jobs . According to him, these gaps have contributed to dissatisfaction among farmers and unemployed youth.
The Congress, however, has responded by rejecting the criticism and downplaying the impact of Jeevan Reddy’s move. Party leaders maintain that he was given due opportunities and suggest that his decision is politically driven rather than reflective of broader discontent.
Jeevan Reddy, while acknowledging the emotional weight of leaving a 40-year association, expressed readiness to work under KCR’s leadership. He also recalled past support for regional issues, including initiatives like Nizam Sugars , as a factor influencing his decision.
With his formal entry into BRS expected soon, the development is likely to influence political dynamics in regions such as Jagtial and Karimnagar. Observers believe the move could have wider implications, both for BRS’s efforts to regain momentum and for Congress as it manages internal cohesion ahead of future electoral contests.
