Jealousy in Joint Family Leads to Acid Attack on 4-Year-Old in Hyderabad
A deeply disturbing case from Hyderabad has exposed how unchecked jealousy within families can spiral into shocking acts of violence. In a joint family setup under the Medipally police station limits, a woman allegedly attempted to kill her four-year-old nephew by tricking him into drinking acid, mistaking it for fruit juice.
According to police officials, the accused had been living with her husband, co-sister, and other family members in the same household. Over time, she reportedly developed a strong sense of resentment, believing that her in-laws were showing greater affection toward her co-sister’s son than her own child. What began as emotional discomfort gradually turned into deep-seated hostility.
Investigators revealed that the tension intensified after a recent incident in which the child’s grandfather got the boy’s name tattooed on his hand as a mark of affection. This act allegedly triggered intense anger in the accused, who saw it as clear favoritism. Unable to cope with the perceived neglect of her own child, she is believed to have made a deliberate and calculated decision to harm the boy.
On April 9, when the child was alone at home, the woman allegedly carried out her plan. She approached the boy in the kitchen and offered him a drink, claiming it was fruit juice. To gain his trust, she even promised him chocolates. The unsuspecting child consumed the liquid, only to suffer immediate and severe pain as the substance turned out to be acid.
The boy began crying uncontrollably, complaining of burning sensations in his throat and stomach. His parents rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors quickly identified the cause as acid ingestion. Timely medical intervention saved his life. He has since been discharged and is currently recovering, though doctors are closely monitoring him for possible internal injuries and long-term complications .
Following a complaint filed by the child’s mother, Medipally police launched an investigation and questioned the accused. During interrogation, she reportedly confessed that her actions were driven by jealousy and a desire to regain attention and importance within the family.
Police have registered a case of attempted murder and are continuing their investigation. The accused is expected to be produced before a court soon, as authorities gather further evidence.
The incident has triggered outrage among locals and raised serious concerns about rising emotional conflicts within households , especially in joint families where comparisons and perceived favoritism can create deep divisions. Social observers warn that unresolved resentment and lack of communication can sometimes lead to extreme consequences.
While the child’s survival has brought relief, the psychological impact of the incident remains a concern. The case stands as a stark reminder of how fragile family bonds can become when jealousy and insecurity go unchecked , turning a place of safety into a site of unimaginable harm.
