Japan stuns Brazil 3-2 in Tokyo, First-ever victory

Japan defeated Brazil 3-2 on Tuesday at Ajinomoto Stadium, marking their first-ever win against the five-time world champions in 14 encounters. The home side rallied from a two-goal deficit to secure the historic victory.

Brazil took an early lead with goals from Paulo Henrique and Gabriel Martinelli in the first half. Despite fielding several changes from the team that thrashed South Korea 5-0 four days earlier, Brazil appeared poised for a 12th consecutive win over Japan.

However, Japan responded swiftly after halftime. Takumi Minamino capitalized on a defensive error by Fabricio Bruno to score in the 52nd minute. Keito Nakamura then equalized shortly after, with his shot deflecting off Bruno. The winning goal came in the 71st minute when Ayase Ueda headed Japan into the lead, sending the sell-out crowd into celebration.

Both teams have already qualified for the 2026 World Cup, to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
