Jammu shines in tricolour as Tawi River Front gets facade lighting ahead of Republic Day
Ahead of the 77th Republic Day, Jammu city was bathed in patriotic hues on Saturday evening as the Tawi River Front was illuminated with tricolour facade lighting, adding to the festive atmosphere across the region.
The initiative was undertaken by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) as part of Republic Day celebrations and ongoing Smart City projects. Decorative pole lights were also switched on along the left bank of the river, enhancing the visual appeal of the riverfront.
The lighting was ceremonially inaugurated around 6 pm by Devansh Yadav, Chief Executive Officer of Jammu Smart City Limited, who also serves as the Commissioner of the Jammu Municipal Corporation. Calling it a symbolic gesture, Yadav said the tricolour illumination was a proud visual tribute to the Republic and reflected Jammu’s evolving urban identity.
“The facade lighting has added a festive ambience to the area and has drawn the attention of residents and visitors alike,” he said.
The illumination forms part of a broader series of civic initiatives being carried out by the JMC ahead of Republic Day, including cleanliness drives and anti-defacement campaigns, aimed at ensuring public spaces reflect the dignity of the national festival.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up for Republic Day celebrations with elaborate arrangements across the Union Territory. The main official functions will be held at MA Stadium in Jammu and Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, where the Lieutenant Governor will unfurl the national flag and take the salute at ceremonial parades. Government buildings and prominent public spaces are being decorated, while security has been tightened as part of the preparations.
Cultural programmes, patriotic performances and marches by security forces and school contingents are also planned, underscoring the spirit of unity and national pride.
The tricolour lighting at the Tawi River Front stands as a key highlight of these celebrations, blending patriotism with urban beautification ahead of the national occasion.
