Jammu River Tragedy: Third teen’s body recovered after two day search

In a tragic incident, three teenagers lost their lives after being swept away by a strong current in the Tawi River near the outskirts of Jammu , officials said on Tuesday.

Rescuers recovered the body of the third boy on Tuesday , a day after two other bodies were retrieved from the river. According to police, the latest body was found approximately half a kilometre downstream from the site of the incident near Nagrota Sainik School . Inspector Vinood Kumar confirmed that search operations had been ongoing since Sunday when the boys went missing.

The deceased have been identified as Bavish Koul (15), Sonam Dutt (16), and Aditya Pandit (15) , all belonging to the Kashmiri Pandit community. Officials said the teenagers were playing volleyball along the riverbank before entering the water for a bath. They were subsequently swept away by the strong current , which proved fatal.

All three bodies have been shifted to the Government Medical College Jammu for postmortem examinations, authorities added.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the region, highlighting the dangers posed by unpredictable river currents , particularly during this time of the year. Local authorities have urged residents and visitors to exercise caution and avoid venturing into rivers without proper safety measures.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep grief over the loss of the young lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway.
