Security forces on Monday intensified Operation ‘Sheruwali’ in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district as the massive anti-terror operation entered its third consecutive day amid efforts to track down suspected terrorists hiding in dense forest terrain.

The operation was launched on Saturday after intelligence agencies received specific inputs about the movement of suspected terrorists in the Dorimal-Gambhir Moghla area of Rajouri district. A joint team of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

According to officials, contact with the suspected terrorists was established around 11:30 am on Saturday, triggering a brief but intense exchange of fire. Security forces believe two to three heavily armed terrorists are hiding in the forested and hilly terrain of the area.

Officials said the terrorists managed to move deeper into the thick forest cover after the initial gunfight, prompting forces to expand the search operation into adjoining areas. Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the spot and a multi-layered security cordon has been put in place to prevent any escape.

Joint teams equipped with drones, sniffer dogs and aerial surveillance systems are carrying out extensive searches in difficult mountainous terrain. Security personnel are also maintaining heightened surveillance across nearby routes and forest tracks.

The Army’s White Knight Corps said the operation was an intelligence-based joint action carried out with the police and CRPF in the general area of Gambhir Moghla. Officials said the operation remains active and searches are continuing round the clock.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties or arrests , but security agencies remain on high alert as the anti-terror operation continues in the sensitive Peer Panjal region.
