Jamia Millia Islamia has expanded its Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) for 2026-27, adding 11 certificate and diploma programmes and extending the application deadline to September 8. The move takes the centre’s offerings to 60 programmes and reflects JMI’s effort to widen access to flexible, relevant and skill-oriented higher education.

The new courses span six foreign languages— French, Spanish, Chinese, Persian, Arabic and Russian —alongside certificates in Photography and Video Editing, Anchoring and Broadcast Presentation, and Indian Knowledge Systems. A Diploma in Artificial Intelligence and Digital Media and an Advanced Diploma in Conflict Analysis and Peace Building further broaden the portfolio.

JMI said the additions are intended to provide learners with academic, language and practical capabilities. Vice-Chancellor Mazhar Asif and Registrar Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi highlighted the importance of expanding opportunities through relevant courses. The deadline extension followed requests from applicants, on the recommendation of CDOE Director Aslam Khan.

Prospective students should note that eligibility and fees are programme-specific. The 2026-27 prospectus lists minimum qualifications and programme-wise fee details, so applicants should verify requirements before submitting forms. The prospectus also states that JMI is a dual-mode university offering Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online Learning (OL).

The study experience differs by mode. ODL learners receive self-learning material and attend counselling at Learner Support Centres, while OL counselling is conducted through online platforms. ODL examinations are held offline at JMI or support centres; online programmes use proctored online examinations.

Career value varies by course. AI and Digital Media, photography, video editing and broadcast presentation can build practical capabilities for digital content and media work. Foreign-language certificates may complement careers in translation, tourism, international business and cross-cultural communication. Conflict Analysis and Peace Building offers specialised knowledge for peace, development and social-sector pathways.

Compared with IGNOU’s larger multidisciplinary portfolio and DU SOL’s strength in mainstream degrees, JMI’s advantage is its combination of university credentials, flexible study and niche skill-based offerings. Students should choose according to eligibility, fees, mode, recognition and career goals.
